Cold showers aren’t just about “proving you’re tough.”
They’re actually about training your body and mind to do hard things.
For the past 18 months, I’ve started my mornings with a cold shower, and sometimes even an ice bath. And let me tell you, it never really gets “easy.”
Every single day, I have to talk myself into it.
Most mornings, I honestly consider not doing it.
But here’s the magic. That daily practice has transformed the way I handle challenges in the rest of my life.
From Cold Showers to Calm Conversations
I used to shy away from tough conversations. Recovering people pleaser here 🙋♀️
For more than 15 years of my career, those moments felt like walking into fire. Heart racing. Stomach churning. Second guessing myself.
But what I’ve realised is that training myself to stay calm in the cold water is the same skill I now use in high pressure situations.
Last week, I had two conversations I would normally dread or delay. Instead, I showed up with calm, confidence, and decisiveness.
And that’s because I had already practiced being uncomfortable.
Why Doing Hard Things Works
Here’s the truth. When you deliberately practice doing hard things, other hard things start to feel easier.
It doesn’t mean the fear or nerves vanish. But it does mean you carry this inner sense of:
✨ “I’ve done this before.”
✨ “I can handle this.”
✨ “One more challenge. Let’s go.”
That shift builds resilience, confidence, and momentum. And honestly, it has been a total game changer for me.
What About You?
For me, cold showers are the daily practice that makes everything else a little lighter.
But for you, it might be something completely different.
So I’d love to know. If you had to pick, what habit makes you more resilient?
👇 Share your practice with me. I’m always curious to learn from what others are doing in this space.
And in the meantime, here’s to leaning into the uncomfortable 💪🚿
