Rituals, Habits and Dancing in the Shower

Today, I’ve got my coffee in hand (freshly brewed on my brand-new coffee machine, very exciting!) and I wanted to share a few thoughts about rituals and habits — the small things that help me stay grounded, energised and in rhythm.

Someone asked me recently what my daily habits look like, and while I’m definitely not perfect, I figured it might be helpful to share a few of the things that work for me.

Morning Rituals That Set the Tone

1. Dancing in the Shower
Yes, really. Sometimes it’s in the kitchen, but more often than not, it’s in the shower. A quick dance session to upbeat music helps me shift into a positive, energised state to start the day. It sounds silly — but it works.

2. Making My Morning Coffee
There’s something really grounding about this daily ritual. Taking a few moments to make my coffee, sit down, and just be. It’s a pause before the pace of the day kicks in.

3. Breathwork
This one’s a work in progress. I don’t always get it right, but most mornings I’ll lie down after my shower and do a few minutes of breathwork. It helps me reset my state and move into a more focused, calm mindset — especially before a full day of meetings or creative work.

Building a Balanced Week

Beyond those morning rituals, I’m also working on the other foundational pillars of wellbeing:

  • Exercise (2 PT sessions, a Sunday group session with friends, and ideally a run, walk, or yoga class)

  • Food and nutrition

  • Sleep and rest

I don’t always tick all the boxes every week — but that’s not the point. The point is showing up again, week after week, and doing your best with what you’ve got.

Rituals Are the Building Blocks of the Life You Want

For me, habits and rituals aren’t about being perfect. They’re the scaffolding that holds up the kind of life I want to create — one filled with energy, focus, creativity and calm.

And the truth is, no matter how great your week was last week, you still have to do it all again this week. That’s the beauty (and the challenge) of rhythms and routines.

So here’s to this week. To the little things that add up. And to showing up again.

Happy Monday. Enjoy your coffee. ☕
