Building Capacity for Business
I’ve been reflecting on this because it’s not the first time we’ve done it — in fact, it’s the third.
The first time was scary. We were hiring two new people at once. It felt like a huge financial outlay, and I remember worrying about what would happen next. What I didn’t realise at the time was how much space it would free up for us to grow.
Each time we’ve expanded since then, I’ve learned something new. The leaps have become bigger. The roles are more senior. The investment feels riskier. But with that comes greater impact, faster growth, and stronger outcomes.
That’s what building capacity really is — creating the space and structure to support what comes next, even before it’s fully here.
Building Capacity in Yourself
It’s not just about business.
In life, too, we need to build capacity to grow. That might mean creating time for creativity, reflection, or learning. It might mean saying no to something good so you can say yes to something great.
You have to make room for the future version of yourself.
Lately, I’ve been doing exactly that. I’m working on something new — something I truly believe is valuable and needed — and that means carving out space elsewhere. I’ve started working a few extra hours on weekends, and while it’s busy, it feels right.
At the same time, I’ve had to say no to a few things, and that’s been tough. But I know what I’m building will be worth it.
Trusting the Process
In business, hiring ahead of growth always feels risky. You never know exactly how it will unfold or what new opportunities it will open up. But that’s where the magic lies.
You have to trust that creating space will allow something wonderful to fill it.
And that trust — that quiet confidence — is what allows growth to happen.
